Translation as an elective course; Bilingualism and French are an important part of our professional complementary electives of Modern Languages Teaching according to the curriculum established. Our translation course which started in 2010, as part of the Modern Languages Program curriculum offers our students a choice as to whether to continue learning ESL or become a better prepared person for our community. Our program is addressed to those students who want to go further in their language development, particularly in this field. Likewise, this elective has been mainly designed to reflect upon the theoretical, as well as the practical aspects that deal with a direct, as well as a reverse translation. Our main intention is that our learners acquire and master, not only the language but also the implicit message that is being expressed. Translation Competence is also our concern as teachers of Foreign Languages and translation, it strengthens our students’ competence of their Mother Tongue, since their competence in English and French are better in our context. Our advanced students take Translation I in the eighth semester because they have previously acquired and mastered certain abilities and skills in English, Spanish and French which provide them with the tools needed for their development as well as their advancement. On the other hand, we are well aware that, despite the fact that we are training them for the teaching of English and French, Translation has become a feasible alternative for undergraduates to be performed in the existing market of our department.
